In
Focus' campaign serves to
broadcast campus news and selected features to the Palo
Alto High School community. However, the show's history
goes back to 1998. Journalism teacher Esther Wojcicki wanted
to expand the opportunities for student media participation
and offered a broadcast journalism option for the spring semester of
the 1997-98 school year. Eight students comprised the first class and received
their training at the local cable facility. Those students
completed one show that aired in June of that year
During
each of the following academic years, In Focus
(name courtesy of former student, Max Fox) produced four quarterly
half-hour news magazine shows. In August, 2001, students and
staff decided to place their efforts toward broadcasting a
four times weekly live show to the campus. With generous assistance
once again from the local cable facility, the first live In
Focus was aired Monday, December 17, 2001 at 10:40 a.m.
PST. Seniors Joe Ritzo and Katie Rohrbaugh were the first
news anchor pair to appear. |
