Overall Staff Awards, 2003-2004

3rd place, Best of Show (Newsmagazine division)
Verde’s "Teen Runaways" issue was considered the third best of several dozen entries in the newsmagazine category of the April 2003 NSPA national convention in Portland. Members of the staff were on hand to receive the award.

6th place, Best of Show (Special edition division)
Verde’s "Animal House" issue was considered the sixth best of several dozen entries in the special edition category of the April 2003 NSPA national convention in Portland. Members of the staff were on hand to receive the award.

Gold Circle Awards
These CSPA awards are on a national scale and awarded to the top three entries in each category.

1st place, Overall Design for Newsmagazine Quarterfold/Pony

West regional winner for editorial excellence
Awarded by TIME magazine for issues of Verde produced during the 2002-2003 school year.

Overall Staff Awards, 2002-2003

Pacemaker (Newsmagazine division)
Announced in November by the National Scholastic Press Association, for Verde issues produced the 2001-2002 school year. The Pacemaker, given for overall staff achievement, is the NSPA’s most prestigious all-staff award. Verde was one of three magazines nationally to win this award.

Gold Crown (Newspaper division)
Announced in March by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for issues produced during the 2001-2002 school year. Verde was one of 21 magazines to win this award, the CSPA’s most prestigious for overall staff achievement. Members of the staff were on hand in New York to receive the award.

Best of Show (Newsmagazine division)
Verde’s "Science of Beauty" issue was considered the best of several dozen entries in the newsmagazine category of the April 2003 NSPA national convention in Portland. Members of the staff were on hand to receive the award.

2003 Ernest Hemingway Writing Award
1st place, Feature Writing

Saleet Wolf for Verde cover stories "Right drug, wrong mouth" and "Gender bender" (The award included a $2500 scholarship and a trip for two to Kansas City to be honored at a banquet and meet Hemingway’s son.)
